Let’s GROW Austin. Become a part of our AIGA Austin community as a Mentor or Mentee in our launch of the GROW Mentorship Program for 2021!

Whether you’re looking for guidance in your design career or eager to give back to young professionals starting their design journey, AIGA would love your help! If you’re seeking advice on navigating the next step in your career, looking for concrete feedback on work in progress or trying to grow your professional network, we want to match you with a mentor that can provide support and guidance.

We invite you to apply! Applications open on Monday, August 2 and are due Saturday, August 21.

The GROW Mentorship Program of 2021 welcomes creative professionals from across disciplines; graphic design, illustration, UI/UX, strategy/research, copywriting, animation, and multidisciplinary practitioners. We are committed to providing mentorship to design students, emerging designers, and seasoned professionals.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The program involves a three-month, group mentoring engagement; pairing Creatives to share insights and experiences. It’s a great way to genuinely make new connections, exchange ideas, build your skills, and share inspiration. Our term begins September 9th and ends December 4th. We ask that you commit to being fully engaged in the mentoring relationship for the duration of the program.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

Mentors: Active professionals in the field of graphic design, communications, advertising, illustration, visual arts, product design, user interface or user experience with 5+ years of relevant experience.
Mentees: Designers at any stage of their career, students in their last year of an undergraduate program or any year of graduate school may apply.

HOW TO APPLY?

To apply, mentors and mentees must fill out an application and choose their interests within the program. Applications will be used to find the best matches. Matching will depend on the number of participants and their interests. Once you have been matched, you will be notified and meet your mentoring partner during our Kick Off event on September 9th.

*Please only apply to be either a mentor or a mentee. If you apply for both we will automatically place you in the mentee group.

WHAT’S MY COMMITMENT?

Each mentoring relationship is unique: you set your individual goals with your partner, drawing on the experience of the mentor and the aspirations and interests of the mentee. Generally, our mentoring partners strive to meet virtually two (2) times a month or between six (6) to eight (8) times during the course of the program–and keep in regular contact by email.

AIGA Austin provides ongoing support to you during the program and provides a mentorship-only track curriculum to follow if you choose. We’ll provide avenues where you can meet up with other mentors and mentees in the program. We also invite you to virtually attend AIGA Austin events and workshops.

THE COST TO PARTICIPATE?

Your time! The program is free for AIGA members and non-members alike. We encourage all participants to support the program by joining AIGA. Your membership costs go directly to putting on programs like this for our entire design community.

COVID Precautions and Safety:

As a GROW Mentorship Program participant, we ask that each mentor and mentee read through our code of conduct, as well as our COVID Commitment. Participants will be held to the code of conduct as well as the COVID Commitment while participating in the GROW Mentorship Program.

For reasonable assistance accommodations to be provided, please notify us at least five business days in advance of any events. Cancellation / Refund Policy

Your registration constitutes permission to use photos, audio, and video recording taken of you at the event for promotional and educational purposes in connection with AIGA Austin. AIGA Austin has adopted the AIGA Code of Conduct with regard to its activities. We reserve the right to refuse admittance for violations of this Code, or other unlawful or disruptive actions. Any concerns should be addressed to the Director of Education.
