DESIGN RANCHETTES: Poster Making, Return of the Xerox

Feb. 05, 2017
$65 for Members
$80 for non-members
Refreshments will be provided.

Join us for another AIGA Design Ranchette workshop and spend the afternoon with Arts and Recreation and OK Studio making gig posters the old-school way, on xerox machines! The goal of this workshop is to create posters individually, for an upcoming concert, then hang em’ up around town. Participants will have access to reference materials, glue sticks, scissors, Exacto knives, clear tape, along with design guidance from Arts and Rec and Ok Studio, who have created 100’s of gig posters during their careers.

Arts and Recreation is an Austin based design firm that believes serious design should be serious fun. They work with everyone from Niantic Labs that put out Pokemon Go to the local bike shop down the street. Collaboratively, the team at Arts and Rec has designed and screen-printed 100’s of gig posters that have been seen stapled on fences, your favorite bands merch booth and even published in fancy design annuals.

Half design studio, half branding firm, half Party Machine, OK Studio is the design shop of Austin designer Erick Montes. Over the past 13 years, Erick has developed an extensive background in branding, packaging, illustration, and poster design. His work has been featured in magazines and stuff.

Arts and Rec and OK Studio has a long history together in poster design and screen printing. They’ve been around since the first Flatstock Poster show, dial-up internet, Texas State was still Southwest Texas, and gig posters were found on the fence not merch booth.

Inspired by our signature event AIGA Austin Design Ranch—an intimate, three-day, hands-on, workshop-driven design retreat in a rustic setting. Design Ranchettes is an occasional workshop series where we will we feature past/upcoming Design Ranch workshop leaders for in-town workshops open to Members and non-members looking to get in on (or re-live) the Design Ranch experience. Topics and settings will vary. #AIGAdesignranchette
