Statement on Killings of Black Americans

Dear AIGA Austin,

Our community, like so many others across the country, is in pain. The deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and Austinite Michael Ramos have driven our city into turmoil.

We stand in solidarity with Black people and people of color suffering today and always. While design may feel removed from the events at hand, our role is often to build the systems and craft the messages that those in power are using every day. We have the responsibility to dismantle systems of oppression and combat injustice in our work.

We encourage our members to use your voices, resources, and skills in support. We invite you to work with us to make a difference in our community. AIGA Austin is here to amplify you and help where we can. For many of us, that starts with education and supporting efforts already in place. We have compiled a list of resources with local impact at the forefront.

Stay safe,
AIGA Austin Board of Directors
