Passion to Profession: Using Design to Destroy Imposter Syndrome
Event image

From the onset of Kylee Barnard’s design career, she found her spirit and passion drowning in Imposter Syndrome – a psychological pattern where you doubt your own accomplishments.

Desperate to soothe these out-of-place emotions and regain her confidence, Kylee used common design strategies to uncover idiosyncrasies that lied beneath the surface. Pulling inspiration from her silk trimmed childhood blanket and the comfort it provided, she built a brand of naturally dyed silk products that pay homage to issues women face in the workplace. Kylee quickly began to feel inspired by the creative community, which led to her second entrepreneurial endeavor, a female art collective.

During this FieldTrip, we will learn about Kylee’s journey and process behind the brand creation of Silk Diaries & Broad Studios, and we will experience the art of natural bundle dyeing a silk bandana. The mini-workshop will outline the benefits of the silk fiber, the ins and outs of natural dyes, and how to set the color with a mordant.

All materials necessary will be provided, thanks to our hosts! If you can swing it, a donation of $10 cash is much appreciated to cover the costs of materials.

Our silk pieces will be available for pick up the following day (Saturday, September 7th) at Broad Studios: 1023 Springdale Rd #6D Austin, TX 78721

This FieldTrip is a special co-production between CreativeMornings/ATX and AIGA Austin, the third of four we’ll be hosting with AIGA in 2019. Learn something new and meet and mingle with your fellow creatives from both communities.
