Junior Designer (C)

April 3, 2015 / By Bill Castillo

Who you are: Do you aspire to one day have your work hanging in some hip design museum? Wish like crazy someone would witness your raw talent and help you hone your craft? Show us what you’ve got! Spiceworks is looking for a junior designer to join our talented team of designers, photographers, copywriters, videographers, coders and marketers. As a member of the team, you’ll collaborate with other creatives, engage in visual storytelling, learn new skills, and improve existing skills.

Who we are: Launched in 2006, Spiceworks is an Austin-based company that’s shaking up the tech space and transforming how products (hardware, software and IT services) are marketed and sold to over 6 million IT professionals around the world. Over 2,000 new users join Spiceworks for free each day. Over 3,000 tech brands (including Microsoft, Dell, HP and Rackspace) advertise in Spiceworks to reach these IT pros. Historically a tough market to reach, vendors love the unique ways Spiceworks helps them connect with this elusive market… so much so that Forbes touted us “the future of media.”

Your day-to-day (as a Junior Designer, you’ll):
• Thrive in a fast-paced environment and work seamlessly with a team of people both near and far
• Think through objectives (and ask questions) to design solutions rather than just creating stuff that looks good
• Handle and make use of constructive feedback from senior designers and other members of the team (a.k.a. skin that’s approximately 42 miles thick)
• Collaborate with senior designers, marketers and copywriters
• Translate objectives into effective design for a wide range of materials
• Design event materials including booths, signage and collateral as well as static and multi-frame online banner ads
• Create graphics for use on websites, emails, presentations and videos
• Maintain and update web pages
• Concept other cool stuff like t-shirts (we’ve created over 30!)

Qualifications: What does it take to do this job?
• Good aesthetic eye (raw talent)
• An online portfolio of your work
• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and other industry software packages
• A strong work ethic (“9 to 5” is just a Dolly Parton song to you)
• Agility. You can think on your feet and adapt well to a quickly changing environment
• Command of copywriting basics
• Proficiency with HTML and CSS is a big plus
• Experience with video and motion graphics is a plus
